The Harrogate Junior parkrun started in October 2015, it's a free, weekly, timed, 2km run for kids aged 4-14yrs (and their carers/parents if they wish). It happens every Sunday morning at 9am in the Valley Gardens and averages over 100 running, skipping and walking kids each week.

The Run Director role involves setting up and inspecting the course, volunteer's briefing, runner's briefing, warm up and general child safeguarding during the run. It often involves processing the post-run timing data to the parkrun HQ database so runners receive a time for each run they complete.

Nicola commented "I really enjoy being a member of a growing volunteer team, meeting people in the community that I otherwise may not have met. Seeing the smiling kids of all ages and abilities, giving high-fives as they run round, makes it all worthwhile. Gone are the Sunday morning lie-ins, but they've replaced with an activity that the whole family can get involved with. Our 9 year old twin boys love running and assisting with volunteering, my husband is also a Run Director, so it really is a family outing!"

It takes 20 volunteers every week in order for the run to go ahead.
